Percussion · North Texas

Percussion programs that outlast the person on the podium.

I'm Taylor — percussion educator, curriculum designer, and founder of Backwerd Rimshot, LLC in North Texas. Directors call me when a section has stalled. Parents call me when a student is ready for more. Both get the same thing: a clear plan and better reps.

What I do

The work comes in three sizes.

Consulting for the program. Clinics for the section. Lessons for the player.

Consulting & Curriculum

I help directors build programs that last — with curriculum, assessments, and systems your staff can actually run. We clarify priorities, tighten fundamentals, and build a plan you can repeat all year.

  • Program audits and development
  • TEKS-aligned scope-and-sequence
  • Assessments and rubrics
  • Equipment planning and budgets
  • Front ensemble and marching design

Clinics & Masterclasses

I help your players level up fast — hands-on sessions built around your group's goals, with takeaways you can use in rehearsal the next day.

  • Snare, keyboard, and four-mallet technique
  • Front ensemble and drumline
  • Half day, full day, or a short series
  • Student leadership and practice strategy

Private Lessons

Private percussion instruction through select North Texas partner campuses, shaped around each student's level, school program, and goals.

  • Fundamentals and musicianship
  • School music and auditions
  • Clear, student-specific direction

What I believe

“Nothing in this case is there by accident.”

A program works the same way. Every exercise, every rubric, every rep has a job — and when something stops earning its place, it comes out. I'm an educator first; percussion is where I do the work.

What I'm building

When the same problem keeps showing up, I build the tool.

Backwerd Rimshot, LLC is the company behind the systems that grew out of this work — for percussion directors first, and for the wider music-program world as those needs become clear.

Praxis Percussion

Program, Studio, and Tech bring planning, teaching, and service work into one connected percussion platform.

Passoffs

Performance review and program support, being built to stand on its own wherever musicians need clear expectations and useful feedback.

Backwerd Rhythm Shop

Free browser tools for practice rooms and classrooms — quick to open, easy to understand, and made for the next rep.

Where I've worked

A clinic, a curriculum, a lesson slot — start with the problem, and I'll send back a real plan instead of a brochure.
